Wendy & Paul

Cathedral Quarter Hotel

The Cathedral Quarter Hotel set in the heart of Derby, is a beautiful Georgian building whose history goes back to 1895.  At one point during its history the Cathedral Quarter Hotel was a Police Station! That was then; today it is a beautiful boutique hotel and was the venue for Wendy and Paul’s laid back winter wedding. Part of the hotel’s charm, apart form the impressive marble staircase and stain-glass windows; is the wonderful Opulence room where the ceremony was held.  The large windows and high ceiling of the Opulence makes for beautiful lighting during the ceremony and when lit during the evening with a mixture of fairy lights and the very stylish pendulum lights, all made for a stunning backdrop to the speeches and dancing. Wendy and Paul had a simple request for their photography; they wanted to capture the intimacy of the day and ambiance of the hotel. I couldn’t have asked for a better brief.  I’ll remember this wedding for the warm and friendly banter amongst the guests; the children’s room full of sweet jars – which had the desired effect on the children! However, one of my fondest memories from this wedding was the scene that played out during Wendy’s bridal prep, as her daughters decided that they too wanted in on the action – priceless memories. It would be remiss of me not to mention that the bride’s and bride-maid’s dresses where designed and made by her sister-in-law Jen Prichard, which looked simply beautiful! Winter weddings are a departure from the “norm”, but with the right ingredients of family and friends and the right venue, end result is truly memorable.
